The NCHER Annual Conference, which will be provided to members and non-members in a virtual format. The event will consist of seven sessions delivered through an easy-to-use information technology platform on issues of importance to the membership with a focus on the political and policy environment after the November election.

The conference will include:

• Key updates on what occurred on election night at the national and state levels, the impact of the election on the political and policy environment, and what it means for the NCHER membership and higher education finance community.
• An update from an official from Federal Student Aid on the U.S. Department of Education’s policies and priorities to improve the federal student loan program.
• A timely session that will discuss recent developments to replace the London Interbank Offered Rate or LIBOR with the Secured Overnight Financing Rate or SOFR by the end of next year, provide an update on the voluntary market adoption of the recommended alternative, and discuss other efforts to ensure successful implementation away from LIBOR for federal and private student loans.
• Three legal sessions focused on examining proposals impacting private loan portfolios, including legislative ideas to allow borrowers to discharge their student loans in bankruptcy and refinance their federal and private student loans and efforts to examine federal fair lending laws and regulations; reviewing state student loan servicing licensing laws as talk continues on moving to a uniform, nationwide, and federally mandated consumer protections; and examining efforts to strengthen data privacy.
